Abstract

The internalization of religious values within the school environment is a crucial aspect of shaping students' character, particularly amidst educational challenges that demand not only academic achievement but also moral and spiritual strengthening. This study aims to analyze the process of internalizing religious values through the morning student-welcoming tradition at SMAN 1 Selomerto, as well as to identify the specific religious values instilled and their impact on student character. A qualitative field research approach was employed, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving the principal, teachers, and students. Data analysis proceeded through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the morning welcoming tradition serves not merely as a prelude to classroom instruction but has evolved into a means of habituation and internalizing religious values within school life. Interactions involving greetings, smiles, handshakes, and the practice of polite behavior serve as vehicles for fostering courtesy, discipline, care, respect for teachers, and positive attitudes toward others. Consistent practice creates a school atmosphere that is more religious, humanistic, and conducive to character development. The study underscores that simple practices when performed routinely and consistently can be effective strategies for internalizing religious values, provided they are supported by teacher role-modeling, school culture, and the involvement of the entire school community. These findings suggest that student-welcoming traditions can be further developed as a component of strengthening character education and religious culture in secondary schools
