Post-Publication Discussion

Jurnal Ilmu Pendidikan dan Sains Islam Interdisipliner (JIPSI) recognizes that scholarly communication continues beyond the publication of an article. Post-publication discussion provides an opportunity for researchers, readers, and other members of the academic community to critically engage with published findings, clarify interpretations, identify potential errors, and contribute to the ongoing development of scientific knowledge.

JIPSI encourages constructive, evidence-based, and respectful discussion of published articles to support transparency, academic integrity, and the continuous improvement of scholarly research.

1. Purpose of Post-Publication Discussion

Post-publication discussion aims to:

  • Encourage scholarly dialogue and critical engagement with published research.

  • Allow readers to raise substantive questions regarding research methods, findings, interpretations, or conclusions.

  • Provide opportunities to identify errors, omissions, or concerns that may affect the reliability of published articles.

  • Enable authors to clarify their arguments, respond to criticism, and provide additional explanations where appropriate.

  • Support the accuracy, transparency, and integrity of the scholarly record.

2. Submission of Comments and Responses

Readers and researchers who wish to comment on a published article may contact the editorial office through the journal's official communication channels.

Submissions should clearly identify the article concerned and present specific, relevant, and evidence-based observations. Comments may address methodological issues, interpretation of findings, theoretical arguments, literature coverage, or other matters of scholarly significance.

Authors of the original articles may be invited to respond to substantive comments or questions. The editorial team may also seek clarification from reviewers, subject experts, or other relevant parties when necessary.

3. Editorial Assessment

All proposed post-publication comments and responses are subject to editorial assessment before publication or dissemination through the journal's official channels.

The editorial team will consider the relevance, scholarly merit, accuracy, originality, and appropriateness of the submission. Comments should contribute meaningfully to academic discussion and should not be used to promote personal disputes, unsupported allegations, or unrelated material.

The journal may request revisions, additional evidence, or clarification before deciding whether a submission is suitable for publication.

4. Standards for Scholarly Discussion

JIPSI expects all participants in post-publication discussions to uphold the principles of academic integrity, fairness, and professional respect.

Comments and responses must:

  • Be based on relevant evidence, sound reasoning, and appropriate scholarly references.

  • Address the research or its arguments rather than attack the personal character of the authors.

  • Clearly distinguish factual observations from interpretations or opinions.

  • Avoid defamatory, discriminatory, threatening, or otherwise inappropriate language.

  • Disclose relevant conflicts of interest where applicable.

  • Respect copyright, confidentiality, research ethics, and applicable legal requirements.

The journal does not consider disagreement with an author's conclusions, by itself, to be evidence of research misconduct.

5. Author Responses

When a substantive comment concerning a published article is accepted for consideration, JIPSI may invite the original authors to provide a response.

Authors are expected to address the issues raised objectively, provide supporting evidence where appropriate, and acknowledge any genuine limitations or errors identified in their work.

Depending on editorial judgment and the nature of the discussion, the comment and response may be published together or through another appropriate scholarly communication format. The journal will seek to provide a fair opportunity for relevant parties to contribute while maintaining editorial independence.

6. Handling Errors and Research Integrity Concerns

Post-publication comments that identify possible factual errors, methodological problems, ethical violations, or concerns about the reliability of published findings will be assessed carefully.

Where necessary, the editorial team may request additional information, consult independent experts, contact the authors, or refer the matter to the relevant institution.

If an issue requires formal editorial action, JIPSI may publish a correction, clarification, expression of concern, or retraction in accordance with its Corrections and Retractions policy. The nature of the response will depend on the evidence, significance of the issue, and potential impact on the scholarly record.

7. Editorial Independence and Transparency

Editorial decisions concerning post-publication discussion will be made independently and based on scholarly merit, relevance, evidence, and compliance with the journal's policies.

JIPSI will not suppress legitimate scholarly criticism solely because it challenges the conclusions of a published article or expresses a different academic perspective. At the same time, the journal reserves the right to decline submissions that do not meet its scholarly and ethical standards.

8. Availability and Record of Discussions

Where post-publication comments or responses are accepted for publication, JIPSI aims to maintain an appropriate record of the discussion and its relationship to the original article.

Any published comment, response, correction, or related notice should identify the relevant article clearly to help readers understand the context of the discussion and follow subsequent developments.

The availability and format of post-publication discussions depend on the journal's editorial assessment and publication arrangements.

9. Commitment to Scholarly Dialogue

JIPSI is committed to fostering an academic environment in which published research can be examined, discussed, and improved through reasoned scholarly exchange. Post-publication discussion is an important part of responsible academic publishing and helps preserve the reliability and credibility of the scholarly record.

This policy should be read together with JIPSI's Publication Ethics, Allegations of Research Misconduct, Conflict of Interest, and Corrections and Retractions policies.
