Allegations of Research Misconduct

Jurnal Ilmu Pendidikan dan Sains Islam Interdisipliner (JIPSI) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of research integrity, academic honesty, and ethical scholarly publishing. The journal does not tolerate research misconduct or unethical publication practices that compromise the credibility, originality, and reliability of the scholarly record.

JIPSI takes allegations of research misconduct seriously and is committed to assessing all concerns fairly, objectively, confidentially, and in a timely manner.

1. Types of Research Misconduct

Research misconduct may include, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Fabrication: Making up data, results, or research findings and presenting them as genuine.

  • Falsification: Manipulating research materials, methods, data, images, or results in a way that misrepresents the research.

  • Plagiarism: Using another person's ideas, words, data, or work without appropriate acknowledgment.

  • Duplicate Publication: Publishing substantially the same work in more than one publication without appropriate disclosure or justification.

  • Authorship Misconduct: Inappropriately assigning, omitting, or manipulating authorship or contributor information.

  • Citation Manipulation: Deliberately including inappropriate or excessive citations to influence citation metrics or misrepresent scholarly relevance.

  • Undisclosed Conflicts of Interest: Failing to disclose financial, professional, personal, or other interests that may influence the research or its evaluation.

  • Ethical Violations: Conducting research without required ethical approval or consent, or failing to comply with applicable ethical standards.

  • Peer Review Misconduct: Manipulating the peer review process, impersonating reviewers, or attempting to improperly influence editorial decisions.

Honest errors, reasonable differences in interpretation, or good-faith scholarly disagreements do not automatically constitute research misconduct. Each allegation must be assessed in light of the available evidence and relevant circumstances.

2. Reporting Allegations

Authors, reviewers, editors, readers, institutions, and other concerned parties may report suspected research misconduct to the JIPSI editorial office.

Reports should include a clear description of the alleged misconduct and, where possible, supporting documentation, relevant references, manuscript details, or other evidence that may assist the assessment.

Allegations should be submitted in good faith. The journal will consider reports regardless of the reporter's professional position or relationship with the authors.

3. Initial Assessment

Upon receiving an allegation, the editorial team will conduct an initial assessment to determine whether the concern falls within the journal's responsibility and whether sufficient information is available for further examination.

The editor may request additional information or clarification from the reporter, the authors, or other relevant parties. Allegations that lack sufficient detail may require further documentation before a substantive assessment can proceed.

The journal will avoid treating an allegation as established misconduct before an appropriate assessment has been completed.

4. Investigation Procedure

Where an allegation warrants further investigation, JIPSI may take the following steps:

  1. Review the available evidence and relevant editorial records.

  2. Contact the corresponding author or other relevant authors to request an explanation or supporting documentation.

  3. Consult reviewers, editorial board members, independent experts, or other appropriate parties when necessary.

  4. Contact the authors' affiliated institutions or relevant research integrity authorities when the matter requires formal institutional investigation.

  5. Evaluate the responses and evidence before determining appropriate editorial action.

The procedure may vary depending on the nature, seriousness, and complexity of the allegation. The journal will seek to provide relevant parties with a reasonable opportunity to respond while protecting the integrity of the investigation.

5. Confidentiality and Fair Treatment

JIPSI will handle allegations with appropriate confidentiality and impartiality. Information will be shared only with individuals who have a legitimate role in assessing or resolving the matter, subject to applicable legal and ethical obligations.

The journal will make reasonable efforts to protect the identities of reporters and other involved parties where appropriate. However, complete anonymity or confidentiality cannot be guaranteed in every case, particularly when institutional investigation or legal obligations require disclosure.

All parties will be treated fairly, and editorial decisions will be based on relevant evidence rather than personal relationships, institutional affiliations, or unsupported accusations.

6. Possible Editorial Actions

Depending on the findings and circumstances, JIPSI may take one or more of the following actions:

  • Reject a manuscript when serious concerns are identified before publication.

  • Request clarification, additional documentation, or appropriate revisions.

  • Suspend editorial consideration while an investigation is ongoing.

  • Issue a correction or clarification when a published article contains a correctable error.

  • Publish an expression of concern when significant questions remain unresolved and readers need to be informed.

  • Retract a published article when the evidence and circumstances justify retraction.

  • Notify the relevant institution, publisher, or other appropriate authority when necessary.

  • Restrict future submissions from individuals responsible for serious or repeated misconduct, where justified by the findings and consistent with the journal's policies.

Any action will be proportionate to the nature and severity of the issue and consistent with the journal's publication ethics and corrections and retractions policies.

7. Institutional Involvement

JIPSI recognizes that formal investigations into research misconduct may fall within the responsibilities of the institutions where the research was conducted or where the researchers are affiliated.

When appropriate, the journal may refer allegations to the relevant institution or request information about the outcome of an institutional investigation. The journal may independently assess the implications for editorial decisions and the published scholarly record without replacing the institution's formal investigative role.

8. Appeals and Additional Information

Authors or other affected parties may submit a reasoned response or appeal concerning an editorial action related to an allegation of research misconduct. Appeals should include relevant evidence or explanations and will be considered by an editor or other appropriate person who is not directly involved in the original decision, where practicable.

Additional information may be requested when necessary to resolve outstanding concerns.

9. Commitment to Research Integrity

JIPSI is committed to protecting the reliability of the scholarly record and promoting responsible research practices. The journal will address allegations of research misconduct carefully and consistently, taking into account the available evidence, the rights of the individuals involved, and the interests of the academic community.

This policy should be read together with JIPSI's Publication Ethics, Plagiarism Policy, Conflict of Interest, Authorship Criteria, and Corrections and Retractions policies.
