This study aims to describe the forms of code-switching and code-mixing as well as the factors causing their occurrence in the interactions between teachers and students at SMA Negeri 02 Bombana. This research employed a sociolinguistic approach using a descriptive qualitative method. The research data consisted of teachers’ and students’ utterances containing elements of code-switching and code-mixing in various interaction settings within the school environment, both formal and informal. Data collection techniques included observation, listening, recording, note-taking, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that code-switching and code-mixing occurred in teacher-student interactions as forms of language adjustment to communication situations, interlocutors, and communicative purposes. Code-switching was found in the form of shifts from Indonesian to regional languages and vice versa, whereas code-mixing appeared in the insertion of words, phrases, and expressions from regional languages into Indonesian utterances. Factors influencing the occurrence of code-switching and code-mixing included linguistic background, language habits, social closeness, situational context, and efforts to facilitate understanding in communication. Therefore, the phenomena of code-switching and code-mixing constitute an important part of language dynamics in the school environment, reflecting the social and cultural realities of the local community.
