This study aims to analyze the contextualization of jihad verses in the digital era through Sahiron Syamsuddin’s ma‘na-cum-maghza approach. This study is motivated by the rise of narrow interpretations of jihad in digital spaces, especially through fragmented Qur’anic quotations, short religious lectures, and religious narratives detached from their historical contexts. This study uses a qualitative library research method. The primary data consist of jihad-related verses in the Qur’an, while the secondary data include tafsir works, academic articles, and studies on radicalism and digital literacy. The analysis follows three stages of the ma‘na cum maghza approach: tracing the historical meaning, identifying the historical significance, and formulating the dynamic significance. The findings show that jihad in the Qur’an does not only refer to war, but also includes moral struggle, da‘wah, defense of oppressed groups, protection of religious freedom, and restoration of social justice. In the digital era, jihad can be understood as an ethical struggle against religious hoaxes, hate speech, extremist propaganda, and the misuse of religious texts. This study confirms that the ma‘na-cum-maghza approach can produce a contextual, moderate, and relevant interpretation of jihad for the challenges of digital society.
