Abstract

This study aims to analyze the contribution of the Arabic linguistic approach in interpreting educational verses in the Qur’an. The study is based on the tendency to understand educational verses through literal translation, while the linguistic meanings embedded in the Arabic structure of the Qur’an are often not explored deeply. This research uses a qualitative library research approach with a thematic interpretation method. The primary data are Qur’anic verses related to education, including QS. Al-‘Alaq verses 1 to 5, QS. Al-Baqarah verse 31, QS. Al-Mujadilah verse 11, QS. Luqman verses 12 to 19, QS. Ali Imran verse 164, and QS. Al-Jumu’ah verse 2. The analysis uses nahwu, sharaf, semantics, and balaghah approaches. The findings show that the nahwu approach helps explain sentence structure and the direction of meaning in educational verses. The sharaf approach clarifies word meanings through roots and morphological patterns. The semantic approach reveals the network of educational meanings in key terms such as ‘ilm, ta‘lim, tarbiyah, tazkiyah, hikmah, and adab. The balaghah approach strengthens the understanding of the Qur’an’s pedagogical messages. This study concludes that Arabic linguistics serves as an important foundation for developing an accurate, systematic, and relevant educational interpretation of the Qur’an for contemporary Islamic education.
