Conflict of Interest

Amorti: Jurnal Studi Islam Interdisipliner is committed to maintaining transparency, impartiality, and ethical integrity throughout the scholarly publishing process. This policy defines conflicts of interest and establishes procedures for identifying, disclosing, and managing potential conflicts involving authors, reviewers, editors, journal staff, and the publisher, both before and after publication. The journal refers to the relevant principles and Core Practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in addressing conflicts of interest and safeguarding the integrity of editorial decisions.

1. Definition of Conflicts of Interest

A conflict of interest arises when financial, personal, professional, institutional, or academic relationships may influence, or reasonably be perceived to influence, an individual's judgment, objectivity, or responsibilities in research, peer review, editorial decision-making, or scholarly publication. Actual, potential, and perceived conflicts must be considered to ensure that scholarly assessments and publication decisions remain fair and independent.

2. Identification and Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest

All parties involved in the publication process, including authors, reviewers, editors, and other relevant contributors, are required to disclose any interests that could affect or appear to affect their participation in the evaluation or publication of a manuscript. Such interests may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Financial interests: Research funding, grants, employment, consultancy arrangements, honoraria, stock ownership, or other financial relationships that may be associated with the research or its outcomes.

  • Personal relationships: Family ties, close friendships, personal disputes, or other relationships that could compromise impartial judgment.

  • Professional and academic relationships: Previous or ongoing collaborations, supervisory relationships, institutional affiliations, or other academic connections that may influence objectivity.

  • Competing institutional interests: Affiliations with organizations or institutions whose interests may be affected by the research findings or publication outcomes.

  • Intellectual property interests: Patents, copyrights, licensing agreements, or other intellectual property rights that could be influenced by the research or its publication.

Disclosure does not automatically constitute grounds for rejection. Rather, it enables the journal to assess the nature of the conflict and determine appropriate measures to preserve the fairness and credibility of the publication process.

3. Management of Conflicts of Interest

Amorti: Jurnal Studi Islam Interdisipliner addresses identified conflicts of interest through appropriate, transparent, and proportionate measures.

For Authors

Authors must disclose relevant conflicts of interest when submitting their manuscripts and provide accurate information about funding sources and other relationships that may influence the research. If an undisclosed conflict is identified after submission or publication, the authors must promptly notify the editorial team. The editors will assess the circumstances and determine whether additional disclosure, a correction, an expression of concern, or another appropriate action is necessary.

For Reviewers

Reviewers must declare any actual or potential conflicts of interest before accepting a review assignment. They should decline invitations when personal, professional, financial, or academic relationships could compromise their impartiality or create a reasonable perception of bias. If a conflict emerges during the review process, the reviewer must inform the editorial team promptly so that alternative arrangements can be made.

For Editors and Journal Staff

Editors and journal staff must disclose relevant conflicts of interest and refrain from handling manuscripts when their impartiality may be compromised. This includes submissions authored by themselves, close collaborators, family members, or individuals with whom they have relationships that could influence editorial judgment. Such manuscripts must be assigned to an independent editor, and the editorial decision must be made without undue influence from the conflicted individual. Where uncertainty arises, the journal will determine an appropriate course of action to protect editorial independence.

For the Publisher

The publisher is responsible for supporting editorial independence and establishing appropriate procedures for managing organizational, financial, and institutional conflicts of interest. Business, financial, or other competing interests must not improperly influence peer review, editorial decisions, or the publication of scholarly work.

4. Transparency and Disclosure

The journal requires relevant conflicts of interest to be disclosed clearly and accurately. Authors should include a conflict of interest statement in their manuscripts, even when no competing interests exist. In such cases, an appropriate declaration may state: “The authors declare no conflicts of interest.”

Where relevant, disclosures concerning funding, competing interests, or other relationships may be published alongside the article to ensure transparency for readers. Information about reviewers' or editors' conflicts will be handled in accordance with confidentiality requirements and the journal's editorial policies.

To preserve the independence of the review process, editors, reviewers, and other individuals with a relevant conflict must not participate in decisions concerning manuscripts in which they have a competing interest. Appropriate safeguards, including reassignment to an independent editor or reviewer, will be implemented when necessary.

5. Conflicts of Interest Identified After Publication

If a conflict of interest is identified after an article has been published, the editorial team will assess the information and determine whether the disclosure affects the transparency, credibility, or interpretation of the published work. Depending on the circumstances, the journal may publish an additional disclosure, issue a correction, publish an expression of concern, or take other appropriate action in accordance with publication ethics principles.

Through this policy, Amorti: Jurnal Studi Islam Interdisipliner seeks to ensure that scholarly contributions are evaluated on their academic merit and that all editorial and publication decisions are made fairly, transparently, and independently.
