Abstract

Natural resource management in Indonesia involves fundamental legal and constitutional challenges concerning state authority, social justice, environmental sustainability, and public legal awareness. This article examines the legal politics of natural resource management, focusing on the relationship between state control, the equitable distribution of natural resource benefits, environmental protection, and legal awareness education. The study employs a normative legal research method using statutory and conceptual approaches to analyse the legal framework governing natural resource management in relation to constitutional principles, public welfare, and ecological responsibility. Particular attention is given to the state's role in ensuring that natural resource utilisation serves the public interest while safeguarding environmental integrity. Furthermore, legal awareness education is examined as an instrument for enhancing public understanding of legal rights and obligations, encouraging civic participation, and strengthening compliance with environmental regulations. This article highlights the importance of aligning legal policy with distributive justice, environmental protection, and public accountability. It argues that effective natural resource governance requires a coherent legal framework, consistent implementation, equitable resource distribution, and meaningful public participation. Integrating legal awareness education into natural resource governance can further support accountable, socially just, and environmentally sustainable management for present and future generations.
