Abstract

Legal education requires learning materials that connect normative legal knowledge with contemporary institutional issues. This study aims to examine education on Supreme Court Justice selection from the perspective of siyasah qadhā’iyyah in legal learning for university students. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach using a literature-based method. Data were obtained from scholarly articles, books, constitutional provisions, legislation, and academic publications concerning Supreme Court Justice selection, judicial independence, siyasah qadhā’iyyah, legal literacy, and legal education. The data were analyzed through qualitative content analysis by identifying, classifying, interpreting, and synthesizing relevant concepts and findings. The analysis indicates that Supreme Court Justice selection can serve as a contextual learning material for introducing students to constitutional provisions, institutional authority, judicial independence, accountability, and judicial ethics. The perspective of siyasah qadhā’iyyah enriches legal learning through the principles of justice, amanah, impartiality, independence, accountability, and public benefit. Integrating these perspectives can strengthen students’ legal literacy and critical reasoning by encouraging them to examine legal norms, institutional relationships, evidence, and competing legal arguments. In the context of the Postgraduate Law Study Program at UIN Fatmawati Sukarno Bengkulu, this approach provides an opportunity to connect contemporary constitutional law with Islamic legal thought. The study concludes that Supreme Court Justice selection can be developed as a contextual and integrative learning topic to strengthen students’ legal literacy, critical reasoning, ethical awareness, and understanding of judicial institutions.
